Manama (ALBH): Aluminum Bahrain BSC (Alba), a pillar of economic and social development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, highlighted its commitment to the development of Bahraini youth when its Director General, Ali Al Baqali, met with around 70 students in On-the-job training programs (OJT) in the different functions of Alba. Administrative Director Hamad Al Shaibeh and other company officials were also present at the event.
Held on June 30, 2022 in Alba, the event was organized for students who joined the company this year from different local and foreign universities to complete their OJT requirements as part of their undergraduate degrees.
Addressing the students on the occasion, CEO Ali Al Baqali said, “Learning experiences are like journeys. It’s not just about learning more but also about doing more in a world where change is the only constant. Our goal is to help interns translate their learnings into action and help them develop their unique competitive advantage to further contribute to Bahrain’s aspirations.
Alba welcomes university interns every year who wish to develop their technical and relational skills in a professional work environment. Between 2019 and 2022, Alba hosted more than 250 university students, who received practical training courses according to their respective specializations.

Alba 5 Power Plant Block 4 Extension Project
Alba Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 is a combined cycle power station which is an extension of the existing PS 5.
The PS5 Block 4 project is the addition of a fourth block of similar 1:1:1 configuration with Class J gas turbine technology and with a minimum rated ISO rating of 680.9 MW and includes connection to the existing 220 kV substation. The efficiency of this combined cycle power plant is much higher than that of the combined cycle power plants of PS3 and PS4. Upon completion of the PS5 Block 4 expansion project, the capacity of PS5 will increase from 1,800 MW to 2,481 MW.
The Mitsubishi Power & SEPCO III consortium will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of Block 4. Commercial operations of Block 4 PS5 are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Alba’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Alba’s COVID-19 Response Strategy was launched in January 2020 following the guidelines of the Bahrain National Task Force for Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response. The Company was able to maintain safe operations throughout 2021 thanks to its agile workforce – employees and contractor staff.
