CTC Youth Development Program offers basketball camps | Sports


COLVILLE RESERVATION, Wash. – The CTC Youth Development Program offered two-day basketball camps throughout the reserve. Coaches for the camps were Chenise (Pakootas) Peone, an Inchelium Tribe member who played NCAA Division 1 basketball for Easter Washington University. She was an assistant coach for Saint George’s and Wellpinit High Schools. Preston Wynn of the Spokane Tribe has played locally at Vanguard University’s Spokane Community College and has played professionally overseas in Germany, France and China.

Jake Green, also of the Spokane Tribe, played two years at Peninsula Community College, led Wellpinit High School to the district championship title as a coach and offers personal skills and youth agility training. Brandon Kohler Played college basketball at Whitworth, Evergreen, was an assistant coach at Omak and Inchelium High School when the girls won the 1B state championship. He recently completed his first season abroad in Armenia.

The coaches’ mission is to show them “what it takes to be elite-level players, provide them with drills they can use on their own to improve, and help them get to where they want to be in basketball and in life.

Camps were held June 13 and 14 in Inchelium, June 20 and 21 in Nespleem and June 22 and 23 in Omak. Students in grades 1 through 7 practiced in the morning, while students in grades 8 through 12 practiced in the afternoon. Youngsters practiced skills and played games for prizes.
