The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the success of the youth development mandate.
He made the pledge while declaring open a 3-day capacity building workshop organized for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) registered at the Civil Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Youth Affairs. The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar commended NGOs and VYOs for their enormous contributions in promoting national unity and integration as well as accelerating development in various fields including education, health, infrastructure development, sports and social services, among others.
He said the workshop aims to equip NGOs and VYOs registered in the country with the relevant skills and knowledge to operate effectively and efficiently, saying it will expose organizations to the guidelines and criteria required for a registration and appropriate recognition by the Ministry in accordance with the provisions of the National Youth Policy and other instruments on youth development which recognize the very important role that youth NGOs/VYOs have to play as partners in the implementation of youth development policies.
“It has been observed that due to the proliferation of NGOs/VYOs in the regime, efforts to achieve the set goals of the National Youth Policy have suffered setbacks and have become so uncoordinated that an assessment/evaluation appropriate level of policy implementation, as well as determining the status of youth-serving organizations that actively implement various policy programs becomes difficult.
‘In order to reverse this trend, the ministry has seen fit to organize a capacity building workshop for youth NGOs and VYOs to engage in real critical dialogue and chart a new course on youth development work , as well as creating synergy with the Ministry. for effective implementation of national youth policy and other regional and international youth development instruments.
“The workshop will aim to enhance your capabilities, bring you together for appropriate revalidation, coordination and synergy, as well as expose you to the guidelines and criteria required for proper registration and recognition by the ministry, in accordance with the provisions of the National Youth Politics.”

Earlier, the Secretary General of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Advocate Abubakar Suleiman commended the Ministry of Youth for organizing the workshop and urged the young participants, NGOs and VYOs to put practice all the knowledge they will gain from the three-day training exercise.
