An innovative new youth development project for the Mulroy area has just received a major financial boost which will support a two-year program dedicated to supporting young people across North Donegal.

The Milford & District Resource Center (MDRC) has received funding of €147,820 from the International Fund for Ireland (IFI), as part of a €4.4 million grant recently approved by the IFI during of a board meeting in Rathmullan.

Milford & District Resource Center director Declan Meehan said he was delighted to have received funding from the International Fund for Ireland.

“This is a new youth development program that will support young people who are not currently in employment, education or training and who may not have had the opportunity in life to fulfill their full potential.

Mulroy’s Youth Engagement Project, which we refer to as the ‘MYE Futures Project’, will see the MDRC run a project to support young people in the community, in conjunction with the International Fund for Ireland.

“The project has been in development for over nine months now, and we are delighted to hear that our proposal has been successful.

“The awarding of the funding by the IFI is a great sign of approval for the MDRC and our ongoing regeneration and development work within the local community.

“The project is expected to start in the coming months and will involve the appointment of a youth officer within the MDRC. This is a hugely important investment by IFI in the wider Milford area which has the potential to make a lasting impact within the community, to benefit young people and their families,” Meehan said.

“We are very happy to launch this project and start working with young people and other stakeholders in the region. »

Stephen Barrett, IFI’s program manager for Donegal, said the IFI has been supporting communities in Donegal since its founding in 1986.

“This project demonstrates IFI’s continued commitment to regeneration and community development work in the North Donegal region.

“We know firsthand the tireless work of community groups and volunteers in Donegal communities.

“The ‘MYE Future’ project is one of a series of projects we have in development across the county as part of our new ‘Connecting Communities’ strategy and I look forward to working with Declan and the council. administration of the MDRC in the coming years,” he said.
