FS Destea intensifies youth assistance

This is after the recent introduction by MEC Makalo Mohale of an awareness program aimed at improving the living conditions of the province’s youth.

Mohale is expected to hold another outreach program at Memel Stadium near the Phumelela Municipality offices on Friday, following the first outreach program held in Phillipolis in the local municipality of Kopanong.

In a statement, Mohale says the outreach program initiative aims to support seven identified local businesses with financial injections after being profiled and empowered to ensure these businesses remain sustainable.

He adds that the program will also involve a general clean-up of the township and the eradication of illegal dumps.

“As a department, we are operating with limited resources, so we intend to nurture and support local businesses, particularly focusing on deprived and rural areas around municipalities such as Kopanong, Phumelela, Masilonyana, Setsoto and Tokologo, because young people today, unlike those of 1976, face more complex challenges such as unemployment, drugs and alcohol abuse,” he adds.

He further states that there will also be interactive exhibition booths for young people who want to get into business, as well as for registration, compliant processes and consumer affairs.

“With the support of relevant stakeholders and the engagement of young people, we will strengthen specific methods and proven approaches to improving our economic sectors. We will develop and implement systems that will put our province on a positive development trajectory.

“I call on all stakeholders to continue to support us in achieving the department’s goals and mandate,” concludes Mohale.
