Hartsville American Legion Post 53 hosts dinner to support youth activities

HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Hartsville American Legion Post 53 hosted a fundraising dinner Monday afternoon to support youth activities in the community.

Dinner included a $10 pulled pork BBQ plate.

Post 53 supports an American Legion baseball team and a women’s fast softball team. He also sends aspiring high schoolers to the Boys’ State and hosts a public speaking contest that challenges high school students to interpret the U.S. Constitution aloud.

The position also contributes to local veterans and youth projects, including working to preserve the Marion Avenue Cemetery, participating in Veterans Day events, and assisting veterans with activities such as than installing a wheelchair ramp.

Position Cmdr. John Benjamins is proud of the community efforts of the American Legion.

“In Hartsville, we contributed to local projects and helped preserve the African American Cemetery,” Benjamin said. “We are working on improving the flag display for Burry Park, which includes the Hartsville Veterans Memorial.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation to support Post 53’s efforts can go to American Legion website or call Benjamin at 843-409-0897.
