RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA., September 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — To help balance social and academic stressors that youth and young adults face as they navigate school, family and friends, Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) offers a program regular fun – and free – classes at its community resource centers.

Sessions take place Monday through Saturday and can be found at iehp.org.
“Extracurricular activities decrease the potential for risky behaviors in children and young adults and provide an increased sense of connection and belonging,” said IEHP Community Behavioral Health Clinical Director Amrita Rai. “Any type of opportunity to engage in activities that promote healthy emotional development can increase self-esteem and the ability to interact with peers, which provides benefits well into adulthood.”
IEHP’s Community Resource Centers can help nurture and improve the mental health of young residents of the Inland Empire. The centers offer classes and activities such as Zumba, creative arts, cooking and gardening at its three locations in Riverside, Saint Bernardine and Victorville. Sessions take place Monday through Saturday and can be found at iehp.org.
The United States Surgeon General Notice 2021 further highlights the impact of COVID-19 on the current youth mental health crisis, citing the urgent need to address these challenges head-on through coordinated action by community and federal organizations and recognizing mental health as an element essential for overall health.
This concept is not new to IEHP, which is currently partnering with several community organizations and local education agencies to expand behavioral health services in and around schools (Student Behavioral Health Incentive Program).
The health plan is also exploring opportunities to add even more free classes and activities for teens and young adults at their centers through a partnership with the Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy.
