“Images of Hope” is an art competition open to children in Lincoln and Tillamook County, where the Oregon Coast Children’s Theater (OCCT) and its youth art programs have their primary activities. . The competition is open to children in Kindergarten to Grade 12, and artwork can be in any medium, pencil, paint, pen and ink. Basic color sketches of paintings will be accepted until October 10.
The first 100 entries will go into a draw for gift cards, free art supplies, some pizza nights and more. The competition looks for images of “hope” through the eyes of a child. In other words, what do they think of when they think of “hope for their future?” “
The artwork will be collected in a mural that will be placed in a Lincoln County government building and in the Tillamook area, will be part of a children’s art exhibit. The OCCT / OCCCA distributes free family art kits to library networks in both counties. If you need help with art supplies, please contact the directors or drop by your local library in Tillamook County. You can also participate in community art days in both counties.
In Tillamook County, the OOCT will be at Fairview Grange Hall on 3rd Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily from August 13-14 and August 20-21. This is for “Days of Art and Community Service”. Students and families can work in public art, participate in a new mural, and prepare the Grange Room for the 2021 and 2022 programs.
The children’s theater and its youth art programs will use Grange Hall starting in the fall for a new administrative office and event site in addition to their statewide programs.
The OCCT / OCCCA will also organize the following workshop days – August 27-28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Newport Performing Art Center Students and their families are invited to participate to help out or simply collect supplies to enter the competition at one of these events. For those missing, schools will be contacted with more information in the fall after Labor Day weekend.
