Lecturer/Lecturer – Physical Education and Youth Development work with ST MARYS UNIVERSITY, TWICKENHAM

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Youth Development to join an ambitious team with industry-relevant programs and contemporary approaches to teaching and learning in higher education. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to draw on extensive experience. in PE teaching/PE teaching in higher education to enrich teaching, curriculum design and knowledge exchange.

The incumbent will assume teaching and assessment duties in core, undergraduate and possibly postgraduate programs within the department and contribute to the development and planning of associated curricula. You will be expected to contribute to and curate a range of modules, ensuring their quality against national and academic benchmarks, and incorporating good practice in inclusiveness and diversity into curriculum design and teaching practice. As well as being able to contribute to a range of subjects within physical education, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with knowledge of contemporary PE in inclusive settings. We require successful applicants to have the ability to contribute to or lead modules drawing on at least two of the following specialist areas: Inclusive Physical Education, Gender and Physical Education/Sport, Sociology and social justice in physical education/sport, adaptive physical activity, outdoors and adventurous pursuits, child/adolescent health and well-being, gymnastics and expressive arts (and their contribution to holistic development ), student preparation for PETE, and innovations in physical education.

Due to the nature of some lessons, the post holder will require an up to date DBS.

Some of the main responsibilities of the speaker role are listed below (this is indicative rather than exhaustive):

  • To undertake teaching and assessment across a range of modules and programmes, including at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Develop and prepare learning resources/assessment guides to support teaching and learning and provide online resources.
  • Participate in the organization and supervision of student dissertations.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, policy formulation and subject group planning
  • Contribute to the research and/or knowledge transfer activities of the thematic group and the research center concerned.
  • Act as a personal tutor for students and uphold the University’s tradition of student-centered, tutor-supported learning.
  • Engage in and strengthen the University’s mission and participate in the wider academic life of the University.
  • Contribute to recruitment, awareness and knowledge transfer activities
  • Undertake other duties reasonably requested by the Subject Manager/Head of Department.
