Ministry of Youth and Sports rejects victimization claims

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports is aware of social media reports indicating a pattern of victimization in its periodic review process which assesses temporary employees in three categories:

  1. Renewal
  2. Non-renewal
  3. Probation

The accusation is categorically false.

In particular, the agency can confirm that six (6) youth worker contracts were not renewed due to insufficient evaluation marks obtained following a review of their work performance.

As clearly stated in their contracts, youth workers must achieve a minimum score of 75% in service delivery to retain their position.

In some cases, several workers had received advance warnings about performance standards. We wish former staff members good luck in their future endeavours.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has already begun the active recruitment of replacements to fill vacancies by June 2022 to fulfill its mandate of serving the communities of Saint Lucia.

The ministry is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, serving all young people across the country, regardless of class, color, creed, sex, orientation or political affiliation.
