Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced a new multi-year deal with DoorDash, naming the US platform as its official on-demand delivery partner.

The main focus of the deal – which will come into effect with the 2022/23 season – will see DoorDash launch a youth football initiative with MLS Next, the North American league’s development programme.

“MLS Next Delivering Access presented by DoorDash” will create an annual fund of $150,000 for clubs in the youth ecosystem. Up to six MLS Next clubs per year will receive grants of up to $25,000 to help provide training, equipment and cover other costs.

In addition to the MLS Next initiative, the partnership will include fan activations at major events such as the All-Star Game, MLS Cup and eMLS season competitions.

As part of its MLS integration, DoorDash has hired United States international DeAndre Yedlin for a marketing campaign built around the Inter Miami defender’s journey through professional football.

“I’m thrilled to partner with DoorDash as they kick off with MLS to champion future generations of football stars everywhere,” Yedlin said.

“As someone who knows firsthand the obstacles that playing at a competitive level can pose, I am honored to team up with DoorDash and MLS Next to share my story and play an active role in making the sport more accessible to everyone. .”

Carter Ladd, MLS Executive Vice President of Brand Alliances and Consumer Products, said, “At an incredible time of growth for MLS and the game in the United States and Canada, DoorDash will be a dedicated collaborator and forward thinking with us on initiatives to support future football stars and their communities.
