The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the youth umbrella organization of all youth and youth associations in the country, said it would only support political job seekers with a youth development program determined by 2023.
Speaking to reporters in Ilorin on Wednesday during his “Youth O’clock” campaign, NYCN Chairman in Kwara State, Mallam Ali Nasiru Yusuf said many political leaders in the country had used the youth for selfish political purposes for too long and later. dumped them.
Yusuf, who said the body would organize the interaction between candidates for political office for the upcoming general elections in the state to challenge them on their youth development plans and programs, added that the measure would serve criterion to support any of them.
“NYCN is the apex youth organization and the authoritative voice for all young people and youth organizations in Nigeria with 104 affiliated Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs), 36 state chapters and 774 local chapters across the country.
“The NYCN was established by a special Act of Parliament in 1963 to be the only constitutionally recognized link between young Nigerians and the government, particularly in matters of youth development plans, policy formulation and implementation.
“NYCN constructively assesses and critiques where the situation calls for it, especially on issues affecting youth development at all levels. That is why we have singled out a few of our many young people at all levels who have demonstrated that the youth of Kwara State have what it takes to move Nigeria forward,” he said.
The group appreciated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State for entrusting the youths of the state with sensitive positions of authority and leadership.
“For example, Kwara State has the youngest President in Nigeria, the youngest Commissioner for Finance, the youngest Commissioner for Youth Development, to name but a few.
We would also like to thank a person who loves young people, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki for his passion, vision and contributions to the development of the youth sector in Kwara State.
“For you, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, with your zeal to work around the clock for the development of the youth sector and Kwara State in general, even without you holding political office, it has become relevant to declare that your potentials have not been fully maximized in Kwara politics.
“On this note, we all the youth of Kwara State encourage you to stand for the position of Senator to represent the good people of Kwara Central in the National Assembly by 2023 and we assure you of our support throughout the electoral process and beyond. ”.
