As long as (the activity) is positive, I don’t think it’s a problem at all. Do not make any noise. Positive things should be supported and encouraged, as long as no rules are broken. It’s creative work

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Young people from the suburbs socializing and showcasing their fashion styles at Dukuh Atas, the transit point of MRT Dukuh Atas and Sudirman Station in Central Jakarta, is a creativity that needs to be encouraged , said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The suburban youth popularly known to hail from the areas of Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok, abbreviated as SCBD, spontaneously held a fashion show called “Citayam Fashion Week” in Dukuh Atas, which attracted the interest of the audience.

“As long as (the activity) is positive, I don’t think it’s a problem at all. Don’t make a fuss. Positive things should be supported and encouraged, as long as no rules are broken. It’s creative work.” the president said after attending the National Child Day commemoration at Bogor Botanical Garden in West Java on Saturday.

He believes there is no reason to restrict the movement of young people until the rules are flouted.

Jokowi instead questioned parties that have called for youth activities to be restricted.

“Why should (activity) be restricted? As long as no rules are broken, (it’s fine). That’s the principle,” the president remarked.

Earlier, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said he was committed to providing socializing space for suburban youth in Dukuh Atas.

The minister said that with its uniqueness and popularity, “Citayam Fashion Week” can be a vehicle to promote fashion trends and tourism. He also expressed his optimism that young people in the suburbs would be influencers who would help promote the products of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Also responding positively to the suburban youth movement, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said he was happy that youth from suburban areas are gathering and socializing in Dukuh Atas.

The mix of residents in the Dukuh Atas area demonstrates that Jakarta is an attractive tourist destination for residents of Jakarta’s buffer regions of Bogor, Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi, the Deputy Governor said.
