US launches next phase of integrated youth development activity with $ 5 million for work preparation

The United States government, through USAID, has partnered with the government of the DRC to launch the next phase of the Integrated Youth Development Activity (IYDA), committing $ 5 million additional over the next year to expand its reach and expand its reach throughout South Kivu. as the last element of our privileged partnership for peace, Prosperity and preservation of the environment.

The one-year extension incorporates groundbreaking changes, including a focus on the inclusion of underserved and under-represented youth (indigenous populations, youth with disabilities, young girls and women) as well as the addition of the island Idwji and the surrounding communities of Kahuzi Biega National Park. As USAID Mission Director Paul Sabatine said during his remarks at the expansion launch ceremony, “Idjwi is a special place, because it has remained a place of peace amidst the expansion. a turbulent environment ”. USAID’s investment in Idjwi is an opportunity for the island to develop its tourism industry. The expansion of IYDA will provide young people with second chance education and work preparation programs tailored to the needs of their community, thus improving economic opportunities not only for the participants, but for the entire island.
